Tinsukia

The district of Tinsukia is located in Assam. It lies in the upper part of the state. The geographical area of the district is 3790 sq. km. The Tinsukia district is divided into three sub divisions of Sadiya, Tinsukia and Magherita (Sadar). In the south west of Tinsukia lies Arunachal Pradesh and to its south west, the Dibrugarh district is located. The Dhemaji district is located to the north of Tinsukia. The geographical location of the district is 95 degree 22' to 95 degree 38' East longitude. The latitudinal extent is 27 degree 23' to 27 degree 48' North. The head quarter of the district is the Tinsukia town.

The total population of Tinsukia in Assam, is 11,50,146 according to the census report of 2001. Out of the total population, the male population is 6,02,515 and the number of female is 5,47,631. The people of Tinsukia is engaged in agricultural activities. Some of the important crop that is cultivated is paddy. Tea plantation and growing of citrus fruits are also carried on by the local people. Working in the coal mines is another way of living for the people Tinsukia. The important oil refinery is located in Digboi. It is one of the oldest oil refinery.

The national park of Dibru Saikhowa is one of the tourist attraction in Tinsukia. One will get to see animals of rare species in this park. This park remains open for the tourists from November to April. The tourists can avail guest houses arranged by the authority of the national park.
