The Purulia district is located in West Bengal. It had a population of 25,38,233 in 2001. It is inhabited by a large number of tribal people. It has an agricultural economy. The rivers Kanshabati, Damodar, Dwarakeshwar and Subarnarekha flows through it.

Purulia conjures up a vision of hills, plain lands, rivulets, forests and wild birds. It is an attractive tourist destination in eastern India. The traditional folk dance and the Chhau dance, which originated in Purulia are quite popular among the visitors.
