Districts of Manipur
The north eastern state of Manipur is divided into 9 administrative units or districts of Manipur. The total area of 22327 square kilometers of the state is subdivided into 9 districts which are further divided into a number of urban and rural centers to facilitate in the administration of the state.
The district of Ukhrul covers an area of 8,200 square kilometers and has the district headquarters in the city of Ukhrul. The city of Hundung is also an extended headquarters of the district. The district is placed in the geographical coordinates of 24N - 25.41 N and 94 E - 94.47 E.
Situated in the valley region, the district of Imphal West is bound by the districts of Senapati, Imphal East, Thoubal and Bishnapur. The district covers an area of 558 square kilometers. The district headquarters is in the city of Imphal.
Imphal East is subdivided into four administrative centers of Jiribam Sub-Division, Sawombung Sub-Division, Porompat Sub-Division and Keirao Bitra Sub-Division. The district also has 3 C.D Blocks.
The district of Bishnupur is geographical coordinates of 93.43 º E and 93.53 º E longitudes and 24.18 º N and 24.44 º N latitudes. The district covers an area of 530 square kilometers and has its headquarters in the city of Bishnupur.
Covered on all sides by hills and valleys, the district of Tamenglong stretches over an area of 4,391 square kilometers. The Chiru, Kuki, Khasi, Zeliangrong Nagas and Hmar are the chief tribes that reside in the district. The headquarters of the district is in the city of Tamenglong.
Churachandpur district lies in the southwestern fringe of the state of Manipur. The geographical coordinates of the district is 92 degrees 59 minutes to 93 degrees 50' minutes East latitude and 23 degrees 55 minutes to 24 degrees 30 minutes North longitude. The district covers a very small area with the urban centers covering 585 hectares and the rural areas stretching across 6,141 hectares.
Chandel district shares its borders with the country of Myanmar. The district was earlier called the Tengnoupal district. 20 tribes inhabit the district of Chandel.
Located between the geographical coordinates of 93.29 degrees to 94.15 degrees East longitude and 24.37 degrees to 25.37 degrees North latitude, Senapati district stretches over an area of 3271 square kilometers. The district shares its borders with Imphal, Tamenglong, Ukhrul and the state of Nagaland.
Thoubal is one of the nine districts of Manipur occupying a larger land area. The district was established in the year 1983 and is subdivided into 9 towns and two community blocks.
