The district of Bishnupur, covering an area of 530 Sq. Km., stretches between 93.43 °and 93.53 ° East Longitudes and between 24.18 ° and 24.44 ° North Latitudes. According to 1991 Census the total population of the district is 1,80,773.

The people of Bishnupur are either directly or indirectly involved in animal husbandry, forestry, small-scale industries and fisheries for livelihood.
