Ri-Bhoi
Ri-Bhoi district in Meghalaya is among the seven districts that the state comprises. Ri-Bhoi was culled out of the Eastern Khasi Hills District on the 4th day of June, 1992. Ri-Bhoi of Meghalaya has its headquarter at Nongpoh, situated about 53 kilometers away from Shillong and about 50 kilometers away from Guwahati.

A brief estimate of the Ri-Bhoi district in Meghalaya is as follows:

# Latitude - 91º40'16"

# Longitude - 25º40' to 26º20' North.

# Climate - Ranging from tropical climate in the areas bordering Assam to the temperate climate adjoining East Khasi Hills District.

# Major Rivers - Umtrew, Umsiang, Umran and Umiam.

# Major Dams - Umtrew Hydel Project on the river Umtrew and Umiam Hydel Project at Umiam river.

# Soil - Red loamy soil and lime silt.

# Natural boundaries - Kamrup District (in the north), Jaintia Hills and the Karbi Anglong District of Assam (in the east) and the West Khasi Hills District (in the west).

# Population - 1,92,795 (according to 2001 Census).

# Density of Population - 79.

# Literacy rate - 51%.

# Headquarter - Nangpoh.


Nestled between the hilly tracts, Ri-Bhoi in Meghalaya contains central uplands known as Lum Raitong in the center and U Lum Sohpetbneng in the south-eastern part.

Furthermore, it can be said that the Ri-Bhoi at Meghalaya has a rugged terrain, with a series of hill ranges, that sloping towards the North and gradually culminates into the Brahmaputra Valley. Due to is rugged topography, transport facilities is not adequate: the region seems to be poor in transport facilities. Yet, the National Highway No. 37 that originates from Jorabad and end in Shillong serves most of the need of transportation in Meghalaya.
