Pulwama
The district of Pulwama was created from the district of Anantnag in the year 1979. The district is spread over an area of 1398 square kilometers. Pulwama is situated at a short distance of 32 kilometers from the hub of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar.
The district of Pulwama is subdivided into six community development blocks, four tehsils, 554 villages and six notified area committees. The total population of the district stood at 5.16 lakhs according to the census conducted in the year 1991. The majority of the populace of the district is occupied in agriculture. 77000 hectares of land is under cultivation in the district. Pulses, paddy, maize and mustard are some of the chief crops cultivated in the district of Pulwama. Cultivation of saffron is a specialty of the district.
