Budgam is one of the districts of Jammu and Kashmir. It became a separate district in the year of 1979 after the bifurcation of the larger district of Srinagar. It covers a total land area of about 1371 sq. km. This district is surrounded by the districts of Barmulla, Srinagar and Pulwama.
The Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir comprises of three tehsils. Namely they are Budgam, Beerwah and Chadoora. There are 496 villages. There are five towns and 108 panchayats in this district.
The climatic conditions of the Budgam district are mainly of the temperate type. While the northern parts of this district are mainly plain the south and south- western parts of this districts are hilly.
The district of Budgam is among the most important centers for tourism in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It includes some of the most famous tourist destinations of the state. Some of the most important tourist attractions here are
* Tosaimaidan- this is the largest pasture in the area.
* Mount Totakuti- this is the place from which the famous Doodhganga stream originates. It is located at an average elevation of 15000 feet above the sea level.
* NilNag- The surrounding area of this blue water lake is a very popular picnic spot.
* Sang-e- Safed- This is a beautiful picnic spot surrounded by lush green pine forests.
* Yusmarg- this is a beautiful meadow surrounded by the Pirpanjal Mountains. It is located at an average elevation of 7500 feet above the sea level.
Apart from these there are many historical monuments that attracts many tourists to the district of Budgam every year.
