Kupwara
Kupwara is one of the districts of Jammu and Kashmir in India. This district was formed after the bifurcation of the district of Baramulla in the year of 1979. The district is situated at an average elevation of 5300 feet above the sea level. It is located between 73 degrees and 10 minutes to 73 degrees 16 minutes north longitudes and 34 degrees 17 minutes to 34 degrees 21 minutes east latitudes.
The total area covered by the district of Kupwara is about 2379 sq. km. It is surrounded by the district of Baramulla in the south whereas there is the line of control (L.O.C) towards its north- west part. There are three tehsils in the district. They are Karnah, Handwara and Kupwara.
The Kupwara district is blessed with extreme natural beauty. It receives a large number of tourists every year. The main attractions of district Kupwara are the lush green patches of forest and the wide variety of wild life that are found here. The famous river Kishan Ganga that separates the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir from the state of Jammu and Kashmir flows through this district.
