Nellore district is the southern most coastal district of Andhra Pradesh, India. Globally it is located between 13-30' and 15-6' of the Northern Latitude and 70-5' and 80-15' of the Eastern Longitude.

The district extends over an area of 13076 Sq. Km accounting for 4.75% of the total area of the state. Its boundaries are Prakasam District in the North, Chitoor District and Chengalpat District in the South. Nellore is bounded by the Bay of Bengal on the East and on the West by Veligonda Hills which separates it from Cuddapah District.

The District is divided into 46 Mandals, under three Revenue Divisions with headquarters at Nellore, Gudur and Kavali. Nellore has a Population Density of 203 per Sq.Km and 1546252 numbers of literates. It has a total number of 3743 schools and 65 colleges out which 11 are I.T.I s, five are Polytechnic Colleges and eight are Engineering Colleges. The rest of the colleges are either Junior or Degree College

The most important river in the District is Pennar River. Swarnamukhi and Kandaleru are the other two rivers in the District, which flow in the West to East direction and merge into the Bay of Bengal. The total geographical area of the District is 13.16 lakh Hectares. Of this 41.3% alone is cultivable area while 18.7% is forest area. Agriculture is the main occupation of the people of the district. The principle crops which are grown in Nellore are Paddy, Jowar, Bajra along with Tobacco, Chillies, Groundnut, Sugar Cane.A variety of agro based Industries such as rice bran oil plants, sugar factories, rice and paraboiled rice mills have come up. As Nellore has a long coast line, farmers have a good time in the aquaculture. Fish is also available in plenty.

Besides a strong industrial infrastructure, good and broad road and railway network connects Nellore district to various parts of the country. The power supply to the district is through Grid of Machkund and Tungabhadhra hydroelectric projects, apart from the Nellore thermal station.

With some awesome Tourist Spots, the district has good potential for tourism enhancement schemes.
