In 1906, the district of Karimnagar of Andhra Pradesh was established. Accroding to 1991 census, the total population of Karimnagar district is 30,37,486 including 15,29,791 males and 15,07,695 females. The district covers 11,823 sq.km of the total geographical area. Karimnagar district is bounded by Madhya Pradesh state in the east, Nizamabad district in the West, Warangal and Medak districts in the South and Adilabad district in the North directions. The rivers Godavari, and Maneru flow through the district.
The industries that provide occupation to the people are Kesoram Cements at Basantnagar, Ramagundam Fertilizers, Ramagundam Thermal Power Station. Social forestry has been promoted by the Government to use the various commodities from forests. The district is also involved in coal mining as it is one of the main minerals of the region. The power requirements of the district are met by Ramagundam Thermal Power Station. The region receives water from Boggulavagu project on Boggulavagu, Echampalli Project on river Godavari. Under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) scheme, the state Government has decided to improve toilets, sanitation and drinking water facilities.
