Mahbubnagar is one of the main districts in Andhra Pradesh which is located at a distance of 96-km from It is surrounded by the Nalgonda, Kurnool, Raichur and Gulbarga districts and River Krishna borders it in the south. With its headquarters at Mahabubnagar, the other important towns in the district are Achampet, Gadwal, Wanaparthi, Jadcherla, Nagarkurnool and. Kalwakurthy.

Mahbubnagar was formerly known as "Rukmammapeta" and "Palamooru". The previous name was changed to Mahabubnagar on 4th December 1890, in honour of Mir Mahbub Ali Khan Asaf Jah VI, the Nizam of Hyderabad (1869-1911 AD). It has been the headquarters of the district from1883 AD. The Mahabubnagar region was once known as Cholawadi or the 'land of the Cholas'. It is believed that the famed Golconda diamonds including the world famous "Kohinoor" diamond came from this district.

According to the 2001 census Population in Mahbubnagar is 35.14 lakhs. Mahbubnagar at present homes a number of different types of colleges like:-

The Mahbubnagar comes under the Osmania University jurisdiction and KDR Government Polytechnic. Although the second largest river of south India flows through this district, the region is generally considered a famine-hit area.

The district is named after the River Krishna and the Barrage built on the river at Vijayawada is the Chief Irrigation Source to the District. Three tributaries of the River Krishna are the Bhima, the Tungabhadra and the Musi during its course in Andhra Pradesh

The district of Krishna is endowed with a rich variety of soils and it occupies an important place in agriculture, which is the most important occupation, and Paddy is the main food crop produced.

Krishna district has recorded a literacy rate of 70.03 percent. So it is evident that the district is well advanced in field of education

Vijayawada, the major city in Krishna district has an important railway junction which is connected to Delhi, Calcutta, Madras, Hubli, Gudivada and Machilipatnam. The second largest Bus Station complex in the state is also located in Vijayawada.
