The district of Munger is situated in the south of Bihar and spread over 1419.7 Sq. km. which accounts for 3.3% of the area of Bihar. It is located between 240 22 N to 250 30 N latitude and 850 30 E to 870 3 E longitude. It is divided into three subdivisions namely Munger, Kharagpur, and Tarapur. The district comprises of nine developmental blocks namely Munger, Bariarpur, Jamalpur, Dharahara, Kharagpur, Tetia Bambar,Tarapur Asarganj and Sangrampur.
The economy of the district is dependent on agriculture. The farmers grow paddy, maize, wheat etc. ITC has helped the farmers by providing seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, and farm implements for hire. Another source of income is the production of organic fertiliser through vermicomposting and NADEP. 10 Milk Marketing Societies have been established supplying 1,500 litres of milk per day to Sudha Dairy, Bhagalpur. Jamalpur Workshop (Eastern Railway), the largest and the oldest locomotive repair workshop, Gun Manufacturing Industry and the Cigarette factory of ITC Limited has generated huge employment opportunities for the people of Munger district.
