Madhubani is located at 26.37 degree north and 86.08 degree east. It occupies a total area of 3501 sq km. The district has a total population of 28, 32, 024 out of which rural population has a share of 34,50,736 and urban population has a share of 1, 24, 545, as per 2001 census.
Madhubani has five Sub-divisions. These are Madhubani, Jaynagar, Benipatti, Jhanjharpur and Phul Paraas. The sub-divisions date back to 1846. Also the district has twenty one blocks namely Jainagar, Pandaul, Rahika, Bisfi, Benipatti, Basopatti, Kaluahi, Babubarhi, Rajnagar, Madhepur, Khutauna, Khajauli, Jhanjharpur, ghoghardiha, Ladania, Madhwapur, Harlakhi, Laukahi, Andharatharhi, Lakhnaur and Phulparas.
Paddy is the key crop of the district. Pisciculture is known to be one of the main sources of revenue in the district. Sugar factories are also present in this place which helps in income generation.
