The Lower Subansari is situated at an altitude of 1500 meters from the sea level which covers an total area of 10,135 sq. km. Upper Subansiri District and China is located on the northern side of the Lower Subansiri District of Arunachal Pradesh. This district is bounded by the east Kameng District on the west and Upper Subansiri District and West Siang on the east side. The Papum Pare District surrounds the southern part of the Lower Subansiri.
The name of Lower Subansiri was derived from the name of the Subansiri River which is famous for its golden colored sands. The climatic state of this district depends on its response towards different seasons which may show variations in different places. Agriculture is the prime source of economy for this district and other major industries also include forestry, mining, construction, trade, manufacturing etc.
People in large numbers visit to this district every year to explore the places like Dolo Mandu, Midey, Pine Groove, Tarin Fish Farm, Taley Wildlife Sanctuary, Ziro Putu, Kile Pakho, the Shiva Lingam in Kardo forest, the Hydel project of Ranganadi etc. The courageous travelers may go deep into the dark green forests to explore the beauty of nature there. Many rare wild animal species like civets, hornbils, tigers, leopards, elephans are the basic inhabitants of these forests.
