On the south western part of Uttar Pradesh lays the famous district of Jhansi. The total area of Jhansi is 5,024 sq. km. Population according to the 2001 census is 17,44,931.
This place has tremendous historical value attached to it. This is the land of the brave freedom fighter, Rani Lakhsmi Bai, the queen of Jhansi who sacrificed her life for the cause of India’s freedom.
The district of Jhansi has in its store architectural works of historical importance. These include the Jhansi Fort, Rani Mahal, Maharaja Gangadhar Rao ki Chathri. Some famous temples are Ganesh Temple and Maha Lakhsmi Temple. The U.P. Government Museum is another favorite tourist destination
