Chitrakoot, 'the hill of many wonders' is a place of great mythological relevance and religious importance. Chitrakoot is associated with historic Ramayana epic as this was the place where Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshman spent their 11 years of exile.
Chitrakoot district is a part of Uttar Pradesh. It lies between 24° 48' and 25° 12' north latitudes and between 80° 58' and 81° 34'east longitudes. The district stretches over an area of 3, 45,291 sq. km.

According to the 1991 census, Chitrakoot district has a population of 6, 24,180 of which 3, 35,360 are male. The female population of the district is 2, 88,810.

Agriculture is the main occupation of the people with Kharif, rabi and jayad being the main crops grown throughout the year.

The Chitrakoot district is a famous tourist spot among the people as it is regarded as the birth place of Lord Ram.
