Jamtara
Jamtara was established as a district of Jharkhand recently in the year 2001. It is a very small district with only four blocks which were earlier a part of the Dumka district. The name Jamtara has its origin in the two words of the local language i.e., 'Jama' which means snake and 'Tar' means settlement or residence; this implies that the district is the abode to many snakes.

The four blocks in which Jamtara of Jharkhand is grouped into are Jamtara, Nala, Kundhit and Narayanpur. Jamtara does not have any developing economy. It is the only district of Jharkhand with no mineral belt within it and this has very much affected the economy of this region. Moreover, the implementation of a law that dates back to the British rule, the land of this district cannot be sold to any foreigner, hence no one can invest here also.
Jamtara Geography
The district of Jamtara in Jharkhand is situated at an altitude of 175 meters in the Chhota Nagpur Plateau region. The district lies on the latitude between 23 degree 10 minutes to 24 degree 5 minutes north while the longitudinal range is 86 degree 30 minutes to 87 degree 15 minutes east.

The total land area of Jamtara at Jharkhand is 177743 hectares and is around 200 kilometers away from Ranchi. The district witnesses summer season from March to May every year while the rainy season lasts from June to September which is followed by winter from October to February. The minimum temperature of the Jamtara district in winter goes down to 2 degree Celsius while the maximum in summer is 45 degree Celsius.

The only tourist attraction in the Jamtara district of Jharkhand is the Parwat Vihar Park which is situated 3 kilometers away from the Jamtara railway station.
