The Nabarangapur district was initially a part of the Koraput District of Orissa but later the district was bifurcated and Nabarangapur acquired the status of an independent district of Orissa. Covering a total geographical area of 5294.0 square Kilometers, the Nabarangapur District came into being on the 2nd of October in the year 1992.
