Lahaul Spiti
Lahaul Spiti is a big district, covering a large area in the state of Himachal Pradesh. It also shares its borders with Tibet. The district constitutes of two different mountains tracts, namely Lahaul and Spiti. The district is located between 76 46' 29" and 78 41' 34" East Longitude and between 31 44' 57" and 32 59' 57" North Latitude. It lies at an altitude of 10,050 feet above Sea Level and the ranges lies between 5,480 meters and 6,400 meters.
The ideal time to visit Lahaul and Spiti is during summer season that is from mid-May to mid-October. The Rohtang Pass is closed from October to May and Lahaul valley remains isolated from rest of the world whereas Spiti can be accessed all through the year. Rohtang Pass is located at an altitude 13050 feet which separates Kullu from the Lahaul valley. A beautiful little lake Sarkund is located to the left of Rohtang pass. Pin Valley National Park is situated at height of 12,000 m above sea level in the Pin valley of Spiti. The main attractions of the region are Lynx, Himalayan Ibex, Snow leopard and Bharal or Blue Sheep. Keylong Museum in Spiti displays diverse archaeological exhibits including Thanka Paintings, manuscripts in Bhoti Scripts, Tankri documents and many more.
