Dakshin Kannada or South Canara District of coastal Karnataka is spread over an expanse of 477149 hectares. Bound by Arabian Sea in the west, Udupi encircles the district in the north, Chikmagalur in the northeast, Hassan in the east, Coorg in the southeast, while Kasaragod in Kerala forms the southern boundary.

Dakshin Kannada's population is estimated to be 1,897,730. With its District Headquarters located at Mangalore is at the forefront of commerce and industry. The local inhabitants also grow crops to earn their livelihood.
